The Swedish Platform on Risk Commodities brings together Swedish companies and organisations who aim to accelerate the global transition to making high-risk commodities sustainable. Through the platform, members have a forum for knowledge exchange, advocacy, and the development of common approaches.
The members represent significant parts of the value chain, including feed and raw material production, producers, and retail, as well as industry and non-governmental organizations. The platform is coordinated by ETI Sweden.
About the Swedish Platform on Risk Commodities
- Gathers more than 30 Swedish companies and organisations who want to contribute to sustainable production and consumption of soy and palm oil.
- Launched in April 2022.
- 30+ members but will affect all suppliers of the Swedish food retailers and major wholesalers.
- Coordinated by ETI Sweden, a multi-stakeholder initiative for sustainable supply chains.
Joint commitments and Roadmap to 2025
The members of the Swedish platform have reached common commitments for mor sustainable soy and palm oil to reduce risks to people and the environment and contribute to increased sustainability.
In short, the commitments mean that by 2025, the members will require that all soy and palm oil in all the products they handle should be verified as more sustainable, for example, through certification. This is an expansion from the current practice where members have the option to use so called credits for an equivalent volume of soy or palm oil that is not yet verified as more sustainable.
The stricter requirements for soy and palm oil apply to animal feed, food, cosmetics, hygiene, laundry, and cleaning products. The new requirements apply not only to the members themselves but also to all suppliers to the Swedish food retailers, major food wholesalers, and the Swedish feed and animal production industry.
